The octagonal design provides maximum strength, and a much easier shape to camouflage than circular or rectangle designs. With 2 bulkhead openings, pipes can be installed from either side. The second opening can be used as a back flush to perform water changes or connect multiple pumps or plumbing lines. The two included Matala mats have two times the biological benefit and will last up to four times longer than traditional mats. These boxes come with self-tapping stainless steel screws for easy installation and corrosion resistance. Lastly, the waterfall snout is reversible. Install in the usual way for basic installation or reverse the snout for a more advanced waterfall appearance.
Elite Series Waterfall Filters are absolutely the strongest, most durable waterfalls on the market! A contractor favorite, Elite Series Waterfalls come standard with Matala Biological Filtration Mats and include a Landscape Lid for concealing the unit within the landscape.

FAQs & Calculations to Help Select the Correct Liner Size
1. What is EPDM?
EPDM is an elastomeric compound that is manufactured from ethylene, propylene, and a small amount of diene monomer. These ingredients are synthesized to produce a product that exhibits a high degree of ozone, ultraviolet, weathering and abrasion resistance, and outstanding low temperature flexibility. These ingredients also contribute to resistance to acids, alkalis, and oxygenated solvents (i.e. ketones, esters, and alcohols).
2. What is the maximum size sheet for EPDM membrane?
Sheets as large as 50 feet in width are produced mostly for use in ballasted and mechanically fastened applications. Narrower widths are also produced to offer applicators greater flexibility in positioning membrane.
Narrower sheets are also produced without factory seams (seamless) for use primarily in adhered and mechanically fastened applications. The major advantage of seamless material is the elimination of factory splice T-joints that occur when factory seams intersect with field splices. This reduction in T-joints significantly increases the potential for watertight performance by eliminating potential "water channels" into field splices.
Both narrow and wide sheets are manufactured in varying lengths from 50' to 200'.
3. What size liner do I need?
The formula for sizing a pond liner is:
(Pond Length') + (2 x Pond Depth') + (2') = Liner Length'
(Pond Width') + (2 x Pond Depth') + (2') = Liner Width'
So... if you want a finished pond that is 12' long, 7' wide, and 3' deep; then using the formula above, the liner size you need is:
(12') + (2 x 3') + (2') = 20' Long
(7') + (2 x 3') + (2') = 15' Wide
This basic formula will work for ALL pond shapes.
4. How Many Gallons of Water does My Water Feature Hold?
Rectangular Ponds
Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.48 = Gallons
Example: A rectangular pond 15’ long, 10’ wide and 1.5’ Deep Pond is...
15’ x 10’ x 1.5’ x 7.48 = 1683 Gallons
Oval Ponds
Length x Width x Average Depth x 0.8 x 7.48 = Gallons
Example: An oval pond 15’ long, 10’ wide and 1.5’ deep is...
15’ x 10’ x 1.5’ x 7.48 = 1683 Gallons
Round Ponds
Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.48 =Gallons
Example: 15’ long, 10’ wide and 1.5’ Deep Pond
15’ x 10’ x 1.5’ x 7.48 = 1683 Gallons
Streams
Length x Width x Average Depth x 0.25 x 7.48 = GALLONS =Gallons
Example: 15’ long, 10’ wide and 1.5’ Deep Pond
15’ x 10’ x 1.5’ x 7.48 = 1683 Gallons
5. How deep should I make my water feature?
For fish ponds, a depth of at least 18", or deeper is recommended. Healthy fish LOVE to move up and down, as well as side to side!
For water gardens, the water feature should have a depth of at least 12", or deeper.
Check your local fence requirements (building codes) and freeze line depth.
6. How Big of a Pump Do I Need?
Minimum pump size is determined by pond type, water volume, head height and friction loss. The minimum pump size recommendations are:
Water Garden, Few Small Goldfish
Circulate total pond water valoume every 2 hours.
Example: 2,000 GPH pump for a 3000-gallon pond with 2’ waterfall.
Fish Pond, Several Small Fish
Circulate total pond water valoume every 1 hour.
Example: 3,800 GPH pump for a 3000-gallon pond with 2’ waterfall.
Koi Pond, Several Large Fish
Circulate total pond water valoume every 3/4 hours.
Example: 2,000 GPH pump for a 3000-gallon pond with 2’ waterfall.
Calculating Head Height
Dynamic head pressure is found by taking the vertical height of your waterfall; the distance between where your pump is (typically in the skimmer) and where your waterfall is, and adding the static head pressure (pipe and fittings) 1’ for every 10’ of tubing and 1’ for every elbow or “T” fitting.
Example: 3' (vertical height) + 2.5 (25' of tubing) + 2' (for 2 elbows) = 7.5' of Dynamic Head Pressure
Note:
It is important to take into consideration while calculating how much flow will be at the top of your waterfall by accounting for the head height due to the laws of fluid dynamics. Please refer to the flow chart above to help choose the correct pump.
